I Introduction of School of Public Health
The School of Public Health of Nanjing Medical University has the national key discipline “Labor Health and Environmental Hygiene”. The discipline of public health and preventive medicine has been ranked first in the “Best Discipline of Soft Science in China”for five consecutive years. It was selected as the national “Double First-Class”list of disciplines in 2022. The college has 12 departments, 8 centers and 2 platforms. In the past five years, he has published more than 1,000 original independent intellectual property academic papers in top international journals such as Lancet, NatMed, CancerCell, etc., and presided over 130 national projects. It has been approved as a national experimental teaching demonstration center for preventive medicine, a national first-class professional construction point and a high-level applied public health talent innovation training project.
II Program
Doctoral program is a postgraduate program focusing on academic training leading to a PhD degree in the following fields:
1. Epidemiology and Health Statistics
Focuses on quantitative methods to investigate disease patterns, evaluate public health interventions, and inform evidence-based health policies.
2. Occupational and Environmental Health
Examines workplace hazards, environmental pollutants, and climate impacts to develop prevention strategies protecting human health.
3. Nutrition and Food Hygiene
Investigates dietary impacts on population health while ensuring food safety through risk assessment and regulation science.
4. Child/Adolescent Health and Maternal & Child Health
Researches physical, mental, and social development challenges from infancy through adolescence to optimize early-life interventions.Improves health outcomes for mothers and children through prenatal care systems, reproductive health services, and early childhood programs.
5. Health Toxicology
Identifies mechanisms of chemical-induced diseases and establishes safety thresholds for pharmaceuticals, industrial compounds, and emerging contaminants.
6. Public Health Laboratory Sciences
Develops advanced diagnostic techniques for disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and precision health monitoring using biotechnology.
7. Community Medicine and Health Education
Designs community-driven health promotion initiatives and behavioral interventions to reduce health disparities in urban/rural populations.
III Study Duration
Regular length of study for the doctoral programs: 4 years (3 years with the possibility of early graduation upon meeting the graduation requirements)

V Criteria & Eligibility
1. Applicant must be a master’s or doctoral degree holder of an age no older than 40 at the time of enrollment.
2. Postgraduate CGPA ≥ 3.0(on a scale of 4.0)or its equivalent.
3. Programs being applied to should be closely related to the applicant's master’s degree.
4. English Proficiency. Applicant should satisfy one of the following:
(1) IELTS result (total score at least 6, each item score at least 5), or TOEFL result (no less than 85 points, no less than 15 points per individual), or other proficiency test scores.
(2) The teaching language of the applicant’s previous degree is English.
VI Application Procedure
1. Applicants are encouraged to contact an NMU supervisor in the relevant field and obtain the supervisor's acceptance intent before submitting the application. A Letter of Supervisor Acceptance Intent for 2025 NMU Admission is necessary to complete an application. An incomplete application without the letter will also be reviewed, but needs to be supplemented subsequently with such letter. The admission office will assist those applicants to contact prospective supervisors .
2. All applicants should submit the materials, including the Letter of Supervisor Acceptance Intent for 2025 NMU Admission and published articles (if any), through our online application system (http://admission.njmu.edu.cn/).
3. According to a preliminary review of the application materials and the requirements of relevant academic school/department, eligible applicants will participate in an interview. The applicants will be notified of the specific arrangements separately.
4. NMU will issue a PRE-ADMISSION LETTER to those qualified applicants.
5. Qualified applicants pay a deposit payment of CNY 1,500 within the period specified in
the PRE-ADMISSION LETTER.
6. NMU will send OFFICIAL ADMISSION LETTER and relevant materials for Visa Application for Study in China (JW201/JW202 form) after receiving the deposit. Failure to pay the deposit within designated period may result in a cancellation of admission.
7. Incoming students apply for an X Visa at an embassy or consulate of P.R. China, along with the OFFICIAL ADMISSION LETTER and the JW201/JW202 form.
8. Applicants in their final year of study will also be considered for admission. However, such admission does not exempt the applicants from their responsibility to present all required original documents (graduation diploma, degree certificate, transcript, language proficiency certificate and other attachment materials, etc.) at registration. Failure to obtain and present all required original documents will result in the cancellation of admission.
VII Required Attachment
1. Passport copy with at least 1-year validity period
2. Letter of Supervisor Acceptance Intent for 2025 NMU Admission(If not submitted, you may apply first. NMU will arrange a supervisor interview upon approval of other documents.)
3. Previous degrees (notarized photocopy)
4. Transcripts of previous studies starting from undergraduate (notarized photocopy)
5. Certificate of non-criminal record
6. A study or research plan in English (1,000 words or above)
7. Two letters of recommendation in English
8. Digital color photo in white background (format: JPG, 100-500KB)
VIII Fee Structure
1. Registration Fee: CNY 500
2. Tuition: CNY 38,000/year
3. Insurance Fee: CNY 800
4. Accommodation Fee: Double room on Jiangning Campus, CNY 6,000/year/person
Note: Utilities will be charged according to actual usage on a monthly basis.
IX Scholarship
University Special Scholarship Regulations:
1. 100% coverage of academic tuition fees.
2. Full coverage of university dormitory expenses.
3. Additional Fee Waivers:
(1) Registration fees waived in full.
(2) Comprehensive insurance fees waived in full.
4. Monthly Living Stipend: ¥3,500 RMB/month.
Quota: 10 students. Recruitment will close once the quota is filled.
The Scholarship is cover all regular length of study.
