【摘要】:Background:Decreased semen quality has been associated with ambient fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5)),but its associations with PM_(2.5) constituents are still unknown.Objectives:To quantitatively investigate exposure-response relationships between PM_(2.5) constituents and semen quality.Methods:We studied 1081 men whose partners underwent assisted reproductive technology procedures in a large reproductive medical center in Wuhan,China,and examined their semen quality at least once between 2013 and 2015.Daily PM_(2.5) constituents(metals and water-soluble ions) were continuously determined at two monitoring stations for one week each month.Linear mixed models were used to examine the associations of exposures to PM_(2.5) and its constituents during 90 days before semen examination with semen quality.Results:In consistent with our previous study,PM_(2.5) exposure was significantly associated with decline in sperm concentration(β:-0.12;95%CI:-0.21,-0.03) and sperm count(P:-0.10;95%CI:-0.19,-0.01).We also observed significant associations of PM_(2.5) constituents including Cd,Pb,Mn and Ni with decreased sperm concentration and sperm count(all P for linear trend <0.05).In addition,both Pb and Mn exposures were inversely associated with sperm motility(all P for linear trend <0.05).Sensitivity analyses showed that these associations were relatively robust across different models.Conclusions:Our findings suggest that PM_(2.5) and its constituents(Cd,Pb,Mn and Ni)adversely affect semen quality,especially sperm concentration and count,and add further evidence to reduce ambient PM_(2.5) exposure for men trying to conceive.
