Health Consciousness and Health Service Utilization of the Floating Population in the Pearl River Delta Area:A Community Perspective

Currently,there exists a relatively huge gap between demand and supply of health services among floating population in China,as the majority of them have no equal access to health service in the host cities compared with their urban counterpart. In the economically developed regions,such as the Pearl River Delta,how to provide health services to migrants has become a pressing social problem. Generally speaking,the enhancement of the health consciousness and services utilization of migrants is of high importance for migrants' wellbeing,equalization of basic public health services and the building of a socialist harmonious society. From a community perspective and based on the polycentric governance theory,this article aims to build up a policy framework for the health consciousness and service utilization of migrants. Subsequent to a coherent literature review and empirical analysis,this article examines the current situation of health consciousness and services utilization of migrants,existing problems and influential factors;explores the relevant and feasible policy suggestions,including improving the community management model for migrant health services,strengthening the leading role of the community service centers,and giving a full play of the role of social organizations within communities.
