Psychological Support
St George's Cancer Care Centre ensures patients have access to a wide range of services supporting patients on their cancer journey. Our clinical psychologists and counsellors are here to support you during your treatment.
Working from Encompass Health, our psychologists and counsellors are here to help you and your family manage the emotional challenges of your cancer journey, as well as supporting you in other aspects of life such as work and relationships.
Psychological support
Our psychologists and counsellor are here to help you manage the emotional challenges of your cancer journey, as well as other areas of life such as family and work.
When you first come to see a clinical psychologist or counsellor they will ask you about your concerns and what you would like help with. This assessment usually takes about an hour. After the assessment they will discuss the options for treatment or further follow up with you. The aim is to help patients and their families develop strategies to reduce distress and enhance coping following a cancer diagnosis, during and after treatment. This may be as little as a one-off session, giving you some resources to use at home, or it may involve further sessions to provide support in more depth.
