Investigation of health consciousness and health behaviors of community residents in Xiangyang

Objective To understand the health consciousness and health behaviors of community residents in Xiangyang,in order to provide the theoretical basis for the promotion of universal health knowledge and health concepts. Methods A total of 387 community residents in Fancheng District of Xiangyang were investigated by self-made questionnaire. Results 58.7%-74.2% of residents believed that their weight,blood pressure,blood lipids or blood glucose levels were in the standard range,50.6% of them considered that they had good health,and 87.3% of them believed that the health was very important. 51.2% of the residents had never planned health examination,63.0% were with no or little movement,and 72.6% were occasionally or never concerned about health news. Conclusion Community residents in Fancheng District of Xiangyang show strong health consciousness,but the health behaviors need improving. The community workers should perform effective measures for the unity of residents′ consciousness and behavior according to the characteristics of the residents,in order to promote physical and mental health.
